Choosing image compression settings

Normal keeps the original dimensions and applies the gentlest reduction. Mid uses stronger compression and may soften fine detail. High is intentionally aggressive: it can reduce dimensions as well as image detail, so it is better suited to small previews or cases where file size matters more than fidelity.

JPG is usually appropriate for photographs but does not preserve transparency. PNG can preserve transparency and sharp edges, although photographs may remain comparatively large. WEBP and AVIF can produce smaller web images, but compatibility depends on the app or service where you plan to use the result.

Which files can I compress?

The compressor accepts one JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, HEIC, or HEIF image at a time. The file must be readable and within the current upload limit.

Will the image dimensions stay the same?

Normal keeps the original dimensions. Mid and High may reduce very large images as part of their stronger compression profiles.

Will transparency be preserved?

PNG, WEBP, and AVIF can preserve transparency. JPG cannot, so transparent areas are flattened onto a white background.

Why might the result not be much smaller?

An image that is already optimized may offer little additional reduction. File size also depends on its dimensions, detail, source format, and chosen output format.
